In my favorite poem by Robert Frost, Nothing Gold Can Stay, he reminds us that like the seasons of nature, life is one season melting into another, and quickly fading away. This is my attempt to document each season in my life and my family.

Jesus Loves Me

Filed under: General — Rachel at 9:37 pm on Sunday, October 30, 2005

I’m such a proud mommy tonight. Kyra sang in church tonight all by herself for the very first time. She has been wanting to do that for a while, but she just asked Pastor Pallotta if she could sing the other night. So, I told him again tonight that she wanted to sing, and he said he would let her. When it was time, Pastor Pallota said, “I think Miss Kyra is going to sing for us tonight.” Kyra hopped up off the pew, marched right up on the stage, and never batted an eyelash. Pastor Pallotta knelt down and asked her what she was going to sing, and Kyra told him. He handed her the microphone, and she turned around, held the mic right under her mouth, and sang Jesus Loves Me. She sang loud, clear, to the tune, and got almost every word right. I was sitting back there with tears in my eyes. I was so proud of my little girl. Elijah stood in the pew to watch her sing, and, when she finished and came down, he was clapping for his sister for all he was worth. I do believe he was proud, too. After church, everyone kept telling me how good she did, and that I should be proud of her. She’s only three, and she did such a good job. My baby is growing up. I’m so proud of her.

What Do You Think This Is?

Filed under: General, Photos — Rachel at 12:57 am on Friday, October 28, 2005

Is it…

A - A blurry picture of a red car taken by a camera phone.

B - A blurry picture of a red car in a Krystal drive through taken by a camera phone held by me as I’m saying (very excitedly), “Get closer, Chris!”.

C - A car full of mimes.

D - All of the above.

If you said “D - All of the above”…Ding Ding Ding! We have a winner.

How lucky am I? I mean, really. Have you ever seen a car full of mimes? I dare say you haven’t. But I have. Cursed be my husband for not driving me closer to the car full of mimes so that I could get a non-blurry picture. I have to give it to him, though. He did drive me around the drive through for the sole purpose of trying to take their picture. If he had of just unlocked the door and let me out, though, I could have ran up to them and got one. He just wouldn’t slow down.

You Can’t Cry

Tonight, as I was watching a very much anticipated episode of Gilmore Girls, I said, “If Rory and Lorelei don’t reconcile tonight, I’m going to cry.”
Kyra said, “No, you won’t, Mommy!”
I said, “Why not?”
“You’re not a kid! You can’t cry, Silly.”

Oh, if only.

Please Do This For Me

I made a Frappr map, like all the cool bloggers are doing, and I really want you guys to go to this link and put yourself on my map. All you have to do is put your name, your zipcode, and something in the “shout out” space. If you want, you can just write “here I am” for your shout out. Please do this, guys. Pretty please. With sugar on top. ;)

Change in Comments Section

Filed under: General — Rachel at 12:18 am on Tuesday, October 25, 2005

Just to let you all know, I changed the settings for my comments section. I added a word verification. I was getting a lot of spam comments, and tonight’s comment with a link to a porn site crossed the line. If this word verification thing doesn’t take care of the problem, I’ll have to do something else…or possibly just make people unable to comment, which I dont’ want to do. Just a head’s up. Carry on, People.

Monday’s This and That

Filed under: General — Rachel at 9:57 pm on Monday, October 24, 2005

Suprise, suprise. I’m actually writing a blog post with no pictures. I’ve been a real slacker where my blog is concerned lately. My life has gotten a bit busier lately…which is a good thing…yet I’ve not found that it gave me all that much more to write about.

Revival started tonight. Bro. Billy Mitchell is preaching the meeting, and I really enjoyed tonight’s service. For all of you guys in my area, you should come one night, if you can. You won’t regret it. He’s a really good preacher.

Sweater weather is finally here! I thought I wanted it, for fashion’s sake, but now that it’s here…I’m cold. We are trying to put off turning on the heat for as long as we can. We have new windows being installed in a couple weeks, and we’re trying to hold out until then. It’s been mighty cold the past two mornings, though. We have two small space heaters going…one in the living room, and one in our bedroom…but they just don’t quite heat the whole house. It is really nice to see the leaves changing color, though. I love seeing the mountains all red and yellow and orange this time of year. It makes the drive to church quite beautiful.

Speaking of beautiful, on the way home from Dollywood Saturday night, I saw my first shooting star! It was so neat. It blazed accross the sky, and then burned out, right before our eyes. It was spectacular. I wish the kids had of seen it. Kyra has been looking for “stars falling out of the sky” lately. She would have loved to have seen it.

I hope everyone had a wonderful day. I’m really going to try to crank out some more interesting posts for you to read in the days to come. I’ll do my best. Have a good night, you guys!

Pictures from Dollywood

Here’s me pusing the kids in the stroller. Not easy, let me tell you!

Here’s Keinzie, Kyra, and Elijah riding the bumble bees.

Here’s me and the girls on the drop tower. It was a lot of fun. Elijah rode this ride, too, but he rode it earlier that day. We didn’t get a picture that time. During this picture, he was asleep in the stroller.

This is the whole gang on the train, prior to departure. The black-haired girl is my favorite cousin, Stephanie, and the guy beside of her is her boyfriend, Matthew. You guys should be able to identify everyone else.

Here is Elijah. His expression is priceless. He had just spotted the big work horses that were being used to process sugar cane for making molasses. He loved those horses.

I just wanted to tell you guys that I updated my “Blogs I Read” category in the left sidebar with a new blog that you should check out. It’s called “Holy Experience“, and I think it’s an awesome blog. Check it out!

Good Weekend

Filed under: General, Photos — Rachel at 11:33 am on Monday, October 17, 2005

I had a really good weekend. We had a church hot dog roast at a family from church’s fish farm on Saturday. It was a lot of fun. It is absolutely beautiful there, and we had gorgeous, perfect weather. We could not have asked for better weather. Kyra and Elijah had an absolute blast. They played all day. Well, Elijah played until he gave out, and then he slept on the ground for a couple of hours. I socialized to my little heart’s content, and enjoyed every minute of it. I was sad that Chris had to work and couldn’t go, but I did have fun despite my disappointment. We went on a couple of hayrides…one in the daylight, and then one after dark. We had a Tug-of-War tournament…men (and boys) against women (and girls)…and the women’s team won three out of five times. Oh, yeah! We roasted hot dogs and marshmallows, and enjoyed the bonfire. It was a really nice time. I of course took some pictures to share with you, my oh, so, lately-neglected blog readers.

Here is everyone on the hayride.

Elijah was sleeping very soundly, despite the hard ground underneath him.

My mom and dad.

Skylar, Alyssa, and Courtney struck a pose for me.

Me and Misty, trying for the third time to get a good picture of the two of us to frame.

Me and Kyra on the hayride.

The many faces of Kyra and her friend, Emily!

Me and Ms Tammy on the hayride.

Elijah finally woke up.

Kyra was telling Bro. Bret a secret. I’d tell you what she said, but then I would have to kill you.

My pastor and his family.

Elijah wasn’t as excited about this picture as Emily was.

All in all, it was an absolutely wonderful day. Everyone had a good time. I can’t wait for the next one!
