In my favorite poem by Robert Frost, Nothing Gold Can Stay, he reminds us that like the seasons of nature, life is one season melting into another, and quickly fading away. This is my attempt to document each season in my life and my family.

Mystery Fever

Filed under: General, Owen — Rachel at 9:21 am on Thursday, May 10, 2007

Owen started running a fever yesterday evening after church, and he still has one. I think it’s hovering around 100 degrees right now, but it was higher during the night. For the first part of the night, he slept like a rock…very uncharacteristic of him. Then about three a.m., he woke up, and was fussing. I nursed him, but that didn’t put him back to sleep like it’s supposed to. For over an hour, he tossed and turned, his hot little hands all over my face. When he’s tired, I can’t keep his hands away from my face. He sticks his fingers up my nose, tangles them in my hair, pats my cheeks, and scratches me with fingernails I should have cut weeks ago. So, neither of us were sleeping. I changed his diaper and gave him some Motrin at about four, and he went to sleep for a couple of hours. He was back in bed with us for a while, and then he was accompanied by Elijah in trying to get me to get up for the morning. I finally stumbled into the living room about nine this morning, acutely feeling the lack of sleep during the night.

Owen’s still running a fever, but he’s crawling around and playing like normal. He’s probably cutting a tooth. At least, that’s what I’m hoping.
