In my favorite poem by Robert Frost, Nothing Gold Can Stay, he reminds us that like the seasons of nature, life is one season melting into another, and quickly fading away. This is my attempt to document each season in my life and my family.

They Make Me So Happy

My kids, that is. They give me so much joy. I can’t imagine my life without them. The things that they do and say…words can’t describe the way they make me feel.

Wednesday night, after church, I was standing on the front porch of the church, and the kids were playing in the parking lot and grass nearby. Someone drew my attention to the fact that Kyra was walking through a grassy ditch filled with rainwater. I think they were suprised when I just smiled at her. The way I looked at it, it wasn’t hurting her, it wasn’t ruining her clothes, the water was clean, the weather was warm…what’s the harm in letting her have fun? Elijah soon joined in, and found that, not only was it fun to walk, run, and stomp through, but it was also a great deal of fun to sit down hard, splashing water up around him. Several of the women acknowledged that it wasn’t hurting anything to let them have their fun, and I’m sure a couple of them were silently disapproving. So what if I had to strip them down to ride home in little more than their birthday suits? They had fun, and I got a sweet memory.

Sometimes, you just have to not worry about decorum quite so much, and just let them be kids.

I agree! :)

There’s always somebody thats not going to approve…they can have their fun…we can have ours…and thats the sweet thing about being mommy, you see them having fun and don’t see it wrong…they are your kids, you went through labor and love for them…and they are yours to guide them into the direction you want them to go!

SUPERMommy!

Sweet life, huh? I can’t wait until Daysha is born!

So very true, Rachel. It’s a wonderful memory for all of you to have and it’s awesome you saved them from a memory of them trying to have fun while mommy yells from the sidelines that they’ll get filthy. Being filthy is part of being a kid, no?

Definitely part of being a kid. Half of the things that I remember so fondly from my childhood involve being covered in ick. ;)
I’m glad that I’m not the only non-stuffy parent out there. lol I think the world would be a better place if kids got to be kids a little more often.
